What You'll Learn
Law lost his Shichibukai title for allying with the Straw Hat Pirates
Trafalgar Law, also known as the "Surgeon of Death", is the captain of the Heart Pirates and one of the most fearsome pirates in the One Piece world. Law earned his Shichibukai title during the two-year timeskip by delivering 100 pirate hearts to the Marines. However, he lost this title when he formed an alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates, who were wanted criminals.
The World Government did not permit Shichibukai to collaborate with other criminals as equals, only allowing them to have subordinates. When Law declared to Admiral Fujitora that he and Luffy were allies, Fujitora immediately revoked his Warlord status. This incident occurred at the beginning of the Dressrosa arc, with Fujitora throwing a meteor at Law and Doflamingo.
Law's alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates was not his first interaction with them. They first met on Sabaody Archipelago and later on Punk Hazard, where Law proposed an alliance with Luffy to take down the Emperor Kaidou, a common enemy. Despite their different views on alliances, they maintained a positive relationship, with Law tolerating Luffy's antics. Law also briefly joined forces with the Straw Hat Pirates during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc and saved Luffy's life at the end of the Marineford Arc.

Law became a Shichibukai by delivering 100 pirate hearts to the Marines. He earned the title during the infamous Rocky Port Incident and soon after became the youngest known Shichibukai in the series to date at the age of 26. As a Shichibukai, Law was stronger than Smoker and Vergo and proved to be quite a match for Donquixote Doflamingo in battle. His Devil Fruit, the Ope Ope no Mi, was worth around 5 billion berries, and he improved his Armament Haki to a level where it could negate Devil Fruit powers.
However, Law lost his title as a Shichibukai when he formed a pirate alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates, which is forbidden for a warlord. Despite losing his position, Law continued to prove his strength, playing a key role in the defeat of Yonko Big Mom and holding his own against Blackbeard in the New World.

He was the youngest Shichibukai at 26
Trafalgar Law, also known as the Surgeon of Death, is a major character in the One Piece franchise. He is the captain of the Heart Pirates and one of the eleven "Worst Generation" pirates. During the two-year timeskip, Law earned the title of Shichibukai, a group of powerful pirates who worked for the World Government to stop other pirates in exchange for total freedom on the seas. Law became a Shichibukai at the remarkably young age of 26, making him the youngest known Shichibukai in the series.
Law formulated a plan to survive in the New World and take the One Piece for himself. As part of his plan, he delivered 100 pirate hearts to the Marines, a feat that earned him the status of Shichibukai. However, he eventually lost this title when he allied himself with the Straw Hat Pirates, which was considered a violation of the rules for a Shichibukai.
Law's abilities include immense willpower, master hand-to-hand combat skills, and swordmanship. He has also eaten the Op-Op Devil Fruit, which allows him to create a spherical territory where he can disassemble, reform, and telekinetically control matter. This power makes him an extremely powerful fighter, capable of causing mass havoc within the area he controls.
In addition to his combat abilities, Law also has a reputation for being calculating and reckless. He is known for planning everything out and following his plans to perfection, but he can also be reckless at times, as seen when he flipped off Eustass Kid at Sabaody Archipelago. Despite his reputation as a ruthless pirate, Law is against the idea of needless killing and has taken a Hippocratic oath to save people's lives.

He was a member of the Donquixote Pirates
Trafalgar Law was a member of the Donquixote Pirates, also known as the Donquixote Family, a powerful pirate crew led by former Warlord, Donquixote Doflamingo. Law joined the crew at the age of 10 and spent two years with them before leaving. During his time with the Donquixote Pirates, Law was trained by various members of the crew in combat and was considered a candidate to be Doflamingo's right-hand man. Law's real name, Trafalgar D. Water Law, was kept a secret, and he was known simply as "Law" to the crew.
The Donquixote Pirates were a very powerful crew, with their captain, Doflamingo, being a world-famous pirate and one of the Warlords of the Sea. The crew numbered about 2000 members in total and was divided into three subdivisions, each led by one of Doflamingo's top subordinates. Law was a member of the Trebol Army, the special powers division, led by Trebol. Sugar, Violet, and Giolla were also officers in this army.
Law defected from the Donquixote Pirates after he was kidnapped by Corazon, who was looking for a cure for Law's Amber Lead Disease. Corazon, whose real name was Donquixote Rosinante, was Doflamingo's younger brother and a Marine working undercover as a member of the Donquixote Pirates. Corazon and Law spent six months searching for a cure for Law's disease, and when that proved futile, Corazon stole the Op-Op Fruit so that Law could eat it and be cured. Corazon then helped Law escape from the Donquixote Pirates, and Law started his own pirate crew, the Heart Pirates.

He is a user of the Ope Ope no Mi Devil Fruit
Trafalgar Law is the user of the Ope Ope no Mi Devil Fruit, also known as the Op Op Devil Fruit or the Ultimate Devil Fruit. It is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to create a spherical domain, inside of which they can freely rearrange, dismantle, and remodel anything and anyone (including themselves) without causing harm. This ability is often referred to as the user's "operating room" or "ROOM".
Law gained this Devil Fruit during his childhood after being diagnosed with the fatal Amber Lead Disease. Corazon, also known as Donquixote Rosinante, stole the fruit from Diez Barrels, a former marine turned pirate, and force-fed it to Law so that he could cure himself. Before Law, the fruit was in the possession of a certain doctor, whose identity is unknown.
Law's Devil Fruit abilities include:
- Shambles: This ability allows Law to swap the positions of any objects within his ROOM, including teleporting himself or others and even swapping souls.
- Takt: Law can levitate objects within his ROOM, such as raising a Marine battleship into the air.
- Amputate: Law can cleanly cut his target without causing harm. This ability is often used in conjunction with other techniques.
- Radio Knife: An advanced version of Amputate, where Law charges his sword with electricity before slashing his enemy, separating them into segments and causing an electric shock.
- Mes: Law strikes his opponent's chest, causing their heart to be expelled from their body without killing them.
- Counter Shock: Law releases a strong electrical surge from his hands, similar to a defibrillator.
- Injection Shot: Law rushes towards his target and stabs them with his sword, pushing them back a fair distance.
- Gamma Knife: Law's strongest non-awakened technique. He creates a short blade of energy and stabs his opponent, destroying their internal organs without leaving external wounds.
After awakening the Ope Ope no Mi, Law gained additional abilities:
- K-ROOM: Law can create a small bubble that coats objects, allowing him to manipulate them and deal damage to his adversaries.
- Shock Wille: Law's sword phases through his opponent's body and creates shock waves from within.
- Puncture Wille: A more powerful variation of Shock Wille that can defeat powerful opponents like Big Mom.
- RE-ROOM: This can be attached to a target and will expand in size if necessary.
- Silence: Used in conjunction with RE-ROOM, this ability nullifies any sound coming from the target.
The Ope Ope no Mi Devil Fruit is considered "ultimate" because it can grant another person eternal youth through the "Perennial Youth Operation" or "Immortality Operation". However, this procedure comes at the cost of the user's life. Doflamingo, who sought this fruit to gain eternal life, stated that when combined with the treasure of the Celestial Dragons, it could be used to conquer the world.
